Shields that block, armour that soaks, and a lot of loose ends tied
Nothing was wiped. Your character, bag, skills, claim and house are where you left them. This update reworks how damage works, adds iron and steel armour you can make yourself, and fixes a long list of small things that didn't quite agree with each other.
Combat: three ways not to get hurt
Every blow in the game, yours or a creature's, now works the same way:
- Dodge. A blow can miss you outright. Your chance comes from your Agility level: 2% to start, about 12% at level 99.
- Block. A shield can stop a blow completely: 5% with copper, 8% bronze, 11% iron and 15% steel. Blocks work against boss strikes too.
- Defence. Armour no longer makes blows miss. It takes a share off every hit that lands instead: about 19% for a full copper set, 25% bronze, 33% iron and 40% steel. A blow that lands always does at least 1 damage. Wards and a meal's Guard take their share off what is left.
- Creatures follow the same rules: a little dodge and some armour of their own. Fights take about as long as before.
- The stats page shows your Damage reduction, Dodge chance and Block chance, and combat text says "miss" for a dodge and "block" only when your shield really stopped it.
Iron and steel armour
- New at the anvil: an iron helm (Smithing 32), iron greaves (33), an iron chestplate (35) and steel greaves (48).
- Iron and steel sets now have five pieces. The four-piece bonus stays, and the fifth piece adds a little more.
- The jade war axe now takes four bronze bars, so it no longer beats the bronze sword for free.
Things that now agree with each other
- The shop, the quest board and the teleporter close when you walk out of reach, instead of staying open while every click is refused.
- "Mend" in your bag is only offered beside a workbench or forge on a claim.
- The upkeep warning comes two days before your claim lapses, as the server's does.
- Party and quest-share invites count down from when they were sent, and close when they run out.
- You can craft batches of 100.
- The Jobs tab now shows the real pace of jobs while you are away (15%).
- Thralls walk a little slower than you, as they were always meant to.
- Harvest quests count every crop you pick, not one per plot. Harvests and animal catches count for your party too.
- Collecting from, breeding and catching animals can now find you a pet.
- Before you plant at the edge of your Farming level, the game shows the chance of a poor harvest.
Words
- Messages say the same thing the same way everywhere: "Your bag is full", "Can't reach that", "Walk over to the forge first", "That isn't yours", "Nobody by that name".
- The town is the town everywhere, never the village.
- Every item now has its own examine text.
- Prestige, Remove, Leave and Release all ask "…? Click again" before they act.
- Numbers in shops and tooltips have thousands separators.
Looks
- New icons for the workbench, claim stone, forge, bed, bookshelf, table, loom, campfire, seed crate, decor and house dressing, drawn at full size instead of shrunk.
- Items that shared an icon have their own now (oak and pine logs, eggs, cloth and linen, hide and wolf pelt), and all bronze gear is the same bronze.
- Workstations, the campfire and table-top props stand on the ground instead of floating.
- The palm and willow no longer have their fronds cut off, and fishing spots look like one family.
- Autumn bushes are proper bushes now, and the dire wolf has a mane and glowing eyes.
- Baby animals wear their parents' colours, and the wolf pup is smaller than a wolf.
- Rocks and ores all grow bigger when nobody mines them for a while, and in winter snow settles on every tree and bush.
- The mouse cursor is the same pixel size as the rest of the interface.
For builders
- The F1 editor has twelve new kinds of ground, grouped by region: meadow, forest, coast, desert, snow, swamp, highlands, cave, dungeon, volcanic, town and interiors, each with its own edges, cliff faces and walls. The world map shows them in their own colours.
- Walls need to be painted at least two tiles thick.
