A new main menu, meals, a boss and new ground
Nothing was wiped. Your character, bag, skills and claim are where you left them. This version changes how the map is painted and how trades start, so older versions are asked to update: the itch app does it for you, and the web version is already current.
A main menu and more than one character
- The game now opens on a main menu, with your character stood up in a small 3D scene of the world. It has Start, Characters, Settings, Credits and the latest patch notes.
- An account holds up to four characters. Make, pick and delete them from the Characters screen; your existing character is your first one.
- Log Out on the menu lets you switch accounts on one computer.
- Logging in on a second computer now tells the first one, instead of leaving it stuck in an empty world.
Meals instead of hunger
Nothing punishes you for not eating. Cooking now rewards you instead:
- Every cooked dish makes you well fed for 10 to 30 minutes, with one buff: Might (more damage), Guard (less damage taken), Mending (health back over time, even in a fight) or Plenty (a chance of extra yield when gathering).
- The harder the recipe, the bigger and longer the buff. The best dishes give two.
- Your buff and its time left show under your hearts and on the dish's tooltip.
A path to follow
After the first steps, a path of 18 goals leads from a campfire and your first meal up to steel gear, one goal at a time. Each goal pays character experience. Crafting stations now show what you can make now plus the next rung, locked, with the level that opens it.
The economy, rebalanced
The old economy let a few minutes of farming buy high-end gear. Now:
- Shops buy at a fifth of an item's value (food at a tenth), and crops are priced by the work that goes into them.
- Shops sell copper gear and a few bronze pieces at a markup. Anything better you make, find or trade for.
- Harvests give back one seed, and cooking and farming can fail near the edge of your skill: a burnt dish, a poor harvest. Ten levels past it, they never do.
- A claim holds a field of its size: 24 to 64 plots by tier. Plots you already have stay.
- Bread has a bread icon now.
The Vampire Lord
The first boss. Builders can place his lair; when you walk into it he wakes and casts ground attacks you can see coming: crosses, rings, bat swarms and stars of blood. Move off the marked tiles before they land. He has three phases, each faster and harder. Everyone in the arena when he falls gets tier-3 gear, a chance at tier 4, coins and the title Vampire Slayer.
New ground
The map is now painted as surfaces and heights instead of hand-placed tile layers:
- Beaches can sit at sea level, between the ocean and the grass, with foam.
- Ramps come in eight styles, with stone stairs for new ones, and can face any direction.
- Cliffs, shores and paths join up cleanly. The island is the same island; nothing moved.
Combat and connection fixes5 changes
- The screen no longer goes red for a whole fight, only faintly when you are hurt. A blocked blow shows your shield.
- Fights no longer slide you a tile sideways between blows, and you swing once per exchange.
- After the game has been in the background, the world snaps to where it is instead of playing catch-up, and sounds don't all play at once. Settings → Sound in the background lets you mute the game while it is unfocused.
- A warning a minute before you are logged out for being away, and any key brings you back.
- Rain no longer splashes on top of the clouds.
Looks and polish7 changes
- Body armour and robes no longer trail a tail under your feet when you walk.
- House roofs use proper shingles, and the minimap now looks like the world, with shores, cliffs, trees and houses.
- Trades ask first: the other player gets Accept or Decline.
- Fences and gates stay in your hand for the next one.
- Claim members can take down each other's structures, with a confirm.
- Clicking gear in your bag wears it,
/ranswers the last whisper, and many messages are clearer. - Clicking a tree or rock and walking around are noticeably smoother.
