v0.8.0NOTHING WIPED

Jobs, growing rocks, and fights you can read

Nothing was wiped. Your character, bag, skills and claim are where you left them. Please update: the itch app does it for you, and the web version is already current. Older downloads show "A new version is out" instead of connecting.

Jobs: gathering on purpose, online and off

A new Jobs tab (J) in the character window lets you pick what to gather: a kind of tree, rock or fishing spot you have the level and the tool for. Press Start, and your character works every node of that kind within twelve tiles of where you stood. It walks from one to the next by itself and waits by the nearest when the ground is picked clean.

Leave a job set when you log off, and you come back to a quarter of what you would have gathered by hand, for up to eight hours. This replaces the old offline gathering. Logging out halfway through chopping a tree no longer counts. Only a job does, and it pays a quarter rather than a half.

Farming walks on too

After planting, watering or harvesting a plot, you walk on to the next plot nearby that needs the same thing. Tilling still waits for you to choose the ground.

Rock and ore grow

Stone, copper, tin and iron grow while nobody mines them: one size every four hours, two sizes at most. Each size holds a full load again, so a big rock gives up to three times as much before it runs out. A grown rock looks bigger and shrinks as you mine it. Rocks nobody has touched yet start at full size.

Fights you can read

  • Goblins and skeletons play their attack animation when they swing at you, timed to the hit. They play a hurt animation when they take a blow without answering.
  • Misses float a "miss" over whoever dodged, with a swish.
  • A wound flashes the edges of the screen red, more for a bigger hit. A small health bar shows over your head while you fight.
  • Skeletons can now be placed in the world, so skulls for thralls can drop.

Your bag

  • A Sort button orders the bag by kind, then by tier, and joins part stacks.
  • Alt+click an item, or use its right-click menu, to star it as a favourite. Sorting leaves favourites where you put them.

Stats

A new Stats tab (S) shows everything about your character in one place: health, combat and total level, attack, defence, dodge and accuracy, what your gear adds, walking speed, each profession's yield bonus, prestige and coins.

Trees stand in front of you

Walking behind a tree now puts you behind it. You used to be drawn on top of every tree, wherever you stood.

For builders: the art studio

  • Sheets open from a big grid of thumbnails with a search box. Each thumbnail grows a little under the mouse.
  • Every sprite the game draws can now be painted: houses and huts, characters, creatures, thralls, equipment, item icons and the HUD. Buildings, characters and creatures can be picked with the Art tool in the world.
  • An animation preview plays an animation strip at the game's own speed while you paint it, with play/pause, frame stepping and a speed control.

Also

  • Thralls were checked against eight bots gathering on the test world. A thrall earns roughly 5–12% of what you earn by hand, so the numbers stay as they are.
