v0.10.0NOTHING WIPED

Hunting, foraging, daily quests, and a closer look at the world

Nothing was wiped. Your character, bag, skills and claim are where you left them. Please update: the itch app does it for you, and the web version is already current. Older downloads can no longer connect.

Two new skills

  • Hunting. Hold a bow and shoot wild chickens, ducks, sheep, pigs and cows from up to 5 tiles away. A kill gives Hunting XP plus meat, and bigger animals also give wool and hide. Higher-level animals need a higher Hunting level. Boars and wolves are still fought up close.
  • Foraging. Berry bushes grow around the island: near spawn, in the wood north of the ponds, in the north meadow and on the east island. Pick them by hand for berries. A bush grows back after a few minutes.
  • New food: roast meat and berry pie, both cooked at a campfire.
  • Leather. Tan hide into leather at the workbench, then stitch a leather coif, chaps and jerkin. It is light armour, one step below copper.

Daily quests

Builders can now put up a quest board. Read it to get three tasks for the day: one creature to defeat, one thing to gather and one thing to craft, all matched to your levels. Finish one and claim it at the board for XP and coins. New tasks come every day at midnight UTC.

A stocked island

The island was missing a lot, and some skills could not be trained at all. Now it has:

  • Coal, beside the iron on the east island and at the end of the west road. Iron, silver and gold bars, and every tool, weapon and upgrade made from them, can finally be crafted.
  • Oaks on and below the new north hill, silver on the east rise, gold on the far west coast, and salvage on the south and east beaches.
  • Two ladders up small rises, so Agility can be trained.
  • Fishing spots moved to the pond edges. Six of them sat in open water before and could not be reached.

Closer to the art

  • The camera starts closer: 3x at 720p, 4x at 1080p. If you already picked a zoom, it is kept.
  • Rain was redrawn: slanted streaks on the pixel grid, splashes where drops land, and grey clouds while it pours.
  • Clouds are big, soft banks that frame the edges of the screen and never cover your character.
  • Shadows are paler and bluer, like the pack's, and cloud shadows pass under characters instead of over them.
  • Water is calmer, with far less sparkle, and has a dark band under cliffs. Water no longer shows through where two cliffs meet.
  • Chimneys puff five different kinds of smoke. The campfire has a bigger fire, the stonecutter's oven burns, and ore veins glint.
  • Leaves burst from the tree on every axe blow. Your character carries a crate overhead while placing something, and hops when a creature misses.
  • Names hang on tan tags. The label under the pointer shows a round icon for what a click does there: axe, pickaxe, rod and so on. A green bar under your feet fills while you work.
  • Builders can place a bobbing boat on the water.

Placing things

Everything you can put down now shows a faint ghost where it would go: white if it fits, red if not, with the reason next to the pointer. Claim stones outline the land they would claim, and animals light up the pen they would go into. Clicking a tile out of reach walks you there first.

Fixes9 changes
  • Two characters can no longer share a name. Before, renaming yourself to someone else's name redirected their whispers.
  • Whispers and guild ranks work for names with spaces.
  • The "Dead Arisen" quest paid 50 shields and dropped most of them on the ground. It now pays one.
  • The Jobs tab won't start a job you don't have the tool for, and a station's "Leave on it" list no longer shows recipes above your level.
  • Hotkeys no longer act behind the Esc menu.
  • The Stats tab counts warding from gear in your dodge.
  • Guild members who can't invite no longer see the Invite button.
  • Crafting rows for other stations no longer squash their second line.
  • Busy scenes run faster: with 40 players and 200 animals around, a frame takes about half as long at normal zoom.
